Admissions

Admission Arrangements

Children are admitted to Nursery at the beginning of the Autumn Term provided they have reached the age of 3 years by the 31st August. It is also possible for children to start Nursery in the Spring Term if they are 3 years old between 1st September and 31st December providing there are still places available in Nursery. Children are admitted to our Reception Class in the September following their fourth
birthday and the school year in which they will be five.

The Admission Policy is controlled by the Local Authority. Early December, prospective new entrants receive the appropriate admission form that must be completed by the end of January and returned to either the school or the Civic Centre. New parents are contacted in the Spring Term and invited to visit during the Summer Term.

In late June/early July new entrants have the opportunity to visit their future class for transition sessions, when all pupils “move on” to their new class rooms and have a chance to work with their new teachers. Parents will be invited to attend a meeting with the school to discuss the arrangements for admittance in to the Reception and Nursery class. During this time, their child will be able to spend
some time with their new teacher.

Parents are requested to complete our school’s Admission Details Form, which includes emergency names and numbers, plus any relevant medical circumstances and dietary requirements of which the school should be aware. Keeping such information up-to-date is vital, thus we seek parent support and response in this matter.

Full details of the admissions process, including application forms for admission, should be obtained from Newport City Council at www.newport.gov.uk/schooladmissions or by ringing the City Contact Centre on 01633 656656.
