Croeso i Dosbarth Caerphilly 2025-2026

For remembrance day we looked at poppies and their colours and painted a poppy to make into a hat. We talked about soldiers who work hard, and we practised marching like soldiers and listening to instructions of when to start, when to stop and when to salute! We learnt the nursery rhyme, The Grand Old Duke of York and had fun singing it when we were marching everywhere.

We have been talking about bonfire night. We have talked about our own experiences of fireworks and bonfires, how to keep ourselves safe and our likes and dislikes. We have been very creative this week using lots of bright paint and glitter to make firework explosion prints, big firework paintings using thick and thin paintbrushes and using bright chalk on black paper to mark make different patterns. We have learnt new songs and rhymes relating to bonfire night, we especially enjoyed ' 5 fat sausages'. Using the dough, we moulded and rolled it into 5 fat sausages and put it in a frying pan and sang the song with a friend. We have enjoyed listening to stories relating to bonfire night and we also watched a display of fireworks on the interactive board.

We have made apple crumble ! We looked at a picture ingredients list to check we had everything but realised we were missing the apples!! So we put our wellies on and went out to pick perfect 'big' apples from our trees. We chopped them up , mixed and rubbed our crumble topping and cooked it in the oven and when it cooled we tried and enjoyed delicious Autumn apple crumble!

Dosbarth Caerphilly have been enjoying our focus book, ‘Owl babies’ . The children have enjoyed listening to the story, joining in with the words and using different expressions. Linked to the book we have been talking about our families and who lives with us, using photos of our families that parents have sent and even drew a picture of our family! We have enjoyed the Autumn sunshine outdoors and sitting around the log circle to be relaxed and calm and enjoy the 'Owl babies' story.

Out on a wellie walk to look at the fruit trees in the school grounds, everyone collected an apple which we then used to make lovely apple print pictures!

We have been talking about Autumn and changes that happen in this time. We have enjoyed being outdoors exploring and looking for leaves that have started to change in colour, in a basket we collected lots of 'Autumn treasure' and using our collection we created lovely Autumn collages, learning how to use the runny glue properly.

We have enjoyed the Autumn sunshine and exploring the school grounds and meadow, the children really loved being able to run to different areas and collecting Autumn treasure!

We have all been getting to know each other and remembering each others names. We have been exploring all areas of the classroom, inside and in our outdoor area, with an adult and helping to tidy up at the end of nursery.
